Ecolonia, Alphen Aan De Rijn, The Netherlands The Dutch know a thing or two about water: about how to live in harmony with an element that can either nurture their low-lying land or drown it. The Ecolonia housing project incorporates many “green” features from solar heating to healthy building materials. A small lake at the centre of the neighbourhood has become a haven for ducks as well as a highly practical - and natural - way of managing rainwater runoff and disposal.
