Seasonal solar storage system, Saro, Sweden

Who said solar energy cannot be stored? The solar panels on the roofs of these houses heat water during the summer which is stored in the large insulated tank in the foreground. This reservoir of heat is retained through the following winter when it is used to heat the same houses. For a north European country not famous for a sunny clime, this project - one of several such schemes in Sweden - demonstrates that solar energy is more versatile than sceptics might care to admit.
